Is finance a man's world? Not at Peaks
Peaks is committed to a more inclusive investment. But how do we ourselves score on gender equality?
More than just fancy talk?
In March – the month of International Women's Day – there’s always a lot of attention for equal opportunities and rights for men and women. And we are no exception here. On March 26, for example, we will be hosting an exclusive dinner, together with & the Table, for women only to discuss all things finance.
— Teuntje, Risk & Compliance Officer at PeaksIn larger companies, the financial sector is often still a man's world, but at Peaks you see many women in high positions. Here it's about what you can do, not who you are.
But we also work towards a more inclusive investment world outside of International Women's Day. One way we do this is by making investing more accessible, by removing the barriers of ‘no knowledge’, ‘no time’ and ‘no large starting capital’. We also regularly organise events for women.
— Kate, Front-End Developer at PeaksTech is still a male-dominated field, but I’m lucky to work at Peaks, where I have female developer colleagues. It makes a difference seeing more women in these spaces.
This translates into a larger share of female investors than is typical for the market. Last year, 45% of our new clients were women. Overall, women make up almost 40% of our customer base – considerably more than the market average, which is around 30%.
Peaks scores 5/5 on Gender Equality Index
But how do we ourselves actually score on gender equality? Do we mainly talk about it, or do we also practice what we preach?
— Felice, Customer Care Agent at PeaksI appreciate the open office space and the pleasant atmosphere. Everyone knows each other and you can always approach your colleagues with questions.
To start with, there are slightly fewer women than men working at Peaks – women are in the minority at 42%. But according to compensation management platform figures.hr, the average in our sector is 31% (reference date: 27 February). So we are well above that.
— YoonKyung, UI/UX Designer at PeaksI love how Peaks brings small moments of joy into daily work life—like our potluck tradition, where colleagues share homemade dishes. It makes the workplace feel like a community.
Tiny pay gap with a twist
When we look at the salaries, we can conclude that Peaks has hardly any gender pay gap – with a difference of 0.16%, we pay male and female colleagues almost the same. And, plot twist: the women at Peaks come out on top, they earn (just) a little more! That’s still unfair of course, because equality applies to both sides. So we have some catching up to do – even if it’s only a little bit.
— Jettie, Office Manager at PeaksI've been working here for more than five years, I think that says enough! It's a young company with a flat structure, which makes it easy to communicate with everyone. That just works very well.
We achieve a neat 50-50 when we look at our top earners. This puts us at number one in figures.hr's Top Earner Equality ranking, above 527 other European tech companies.
All in all, our total score on the Gender Equality Index of figures.hr is 5 out of 5. A top score! It shows that we put our money where our mouth is when it comes to equality. And we’re proud of that.
